Ho Chi Minh City - Nhi Dong 1 (Children's Hospital 1)

Five-month-old Hoang Thi Kim Khanh is one of the patients who received financial support from Children's HeartLink for a pediatric cardiac operation at Nhi Dong 1 Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Today, more than 10,000 Vietnamese children need, but can't get, pediatric cardiac care. Nhi Dong 1 is the only public hospital in Ho Chi Minh City that has a viable pediatric cardiac program. The training provided by Children's HeartLink medical volunteers and other organizations is helping Nhi Dong 1 make significant improvements in the care the hospital provides for children with congenital heart defects.

Children's HeartLink returned to Nhi Dong 1 twice last year--first for a cardiac mission with a team from Singapore and, later in the year, to provide partial support and staffing to a cardiac mission with a team from Mary Bridge Children's Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. Six children received treatment during each of these missions, and the local staff received valuable training and mentoring.
