First Hospital of Lanzhou University, Lanzhou

Partnership Overview:
Children’s HeartLink’s partnership with the First Hospital of Lanzhou University (FHLU) is our longest standing partnership, established in 1999. FHLU is a public hospital with 800 beds and is one of the largest medical facilities serving northwestern China. In 2010, FHLU performed 337 pediatric cardiac surgeries, of which 305 were open-heart surgeries. Focus of programs has been on program development and planning, facilities planning, infection control, clinical capacity building, quality improvement and equipment maintenance.
 
Geography & Demographics:
Lanzhou, a city of 3.3 million, is located on the banks of the Yellow River and is the capital of Gansu Province - one of the poorest and least developed provinces in China, with the GDP per capita at $2,380. Gansu Province is located in northwestern China and is a mountainous region of some 26 million people. Key industries include mining, electricity generation and petrochemicals.
