Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) entered into a partnership with Children's HeartLink in 2011. PGIMER is a 2,000-bed public teaching hospital with 200 cardiac beds and 200 pediatric beds. It is operated by the national government, which provides reliable funding and a stable, well-trained professional staff, and the cardiac center has access to other pediatric specialties at the adjacent full-service Children’s Hospital. Its catchment area includes the northern India states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and the union territory of Chandigarh, with a combined population of about 50 million. PGIMER recently established the advanced cardiac center with a pediatric cardiac program and in 2010, about 400 pediatric open heart operations and 100 interventional procedures were performed.
