Partnership Overview:
Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences (RTIICS) became a partner of Children’s HeartLink in 2015, with the goal of strengthening the clinical and organizational capabilities of its pediatric cardiac program. A private hospital with 550 beds, it provides service to the people of the state of West Bengal where it is located and to neighboring states. RTIICS performs a large number of pediatric and adult cardiac surgeries. On an annual basis the pediatric cardiac program performs 1,200 open heart surgeries and 1,500 diagnostic and interventional procedures.

Geography & Demographics:
Located on Hooghly River, Kolkata is the commercial, cultural and educational center of East India. Kolkata is the capital of the Indian state of West Bengal (population 90 million), and the metropolitan area has a population of 14.1 million. The city was central to  the Indian independence movement and remains a hub of contemporary state politics. Kolkata has produced several Nobel laureates, and its citizens have made important contributions to the dramatic, literary and visual arts, most notably film.
