Partnership Overview:
Children's HeartLink has partnered with Institut Jantung Negara (National Heart Institute - IJN) since 2007. IJN is a leading regional center of excellence, and the goal of this partnership is to strengthen IJN's program and capacity as a leading training institution for Malaysia and and the Pacific region. This partnership also ensures IJN's steady progress toward becoming a Children’s HeartLink Global Partner in Pediatric Cardiac Care and Training.

IJN is highly respected within Malaysia and throughout the region, regularly receiving trainees from abroad, as well as sending teams to East Malaysia (Borneo), Indonesia, Vietnam and Bangladesh to help improve pediatric cardiac services in these areas. The hospital has 400 beds and performs more than 800 pediatric open heart operations and 600 interventional procedures annually.

Kuala Lumpur is the capital and largest city in Malaysia, a federation of 13 states situated in the South China Sea with a total population of 24.8 million people.

Congenital heart disease is the world's most common birth defect, affecting one in 100 children. Ninety percent of these children live where there is inadequate medical care.
